Fall Gym Thoughts: A Fitness Routine
Updated: 7 hours ago
I’m always shocked as summer starts to fade away. Without really noticing the shift, the air feels different, the light turns September hazy, the lake has a tiny bit of a bite and my skin starts to fade back into a color I call “February skin,” not a color that typically sparks joy.
Seasons changing are often tricky for me. I love the fall but it is the most obvious measure of time for me; school starts, which I feel is the actual start to the new year, my birthday comes around and I find myself in a space of contemplation.

In the contemplation of the last weeks I’ve been reminded that fitness, health, wellbeing, works best with a village. The village creates accountability, encouragement and support. The village is fun. The village holds space when showing up feels hard. The village is new friendships and existing connections growing deeper.
I’ve reminded myself that in a world of intimidating health club environments, my gym is a safe place for people to be exactly who they need to be. I’ve reminded myself that health is all the things. Health is finding a village, feeling safe, having fun, getting a little kick in the ass or being encouraged to slow down.
I’ve reminded myself that the people who come through my gym are my village. My gym is a safe space for me to be vulnerable. My gym brings me joy and my gym gives me a sense of pride and confidence that I’ve often struggled with.
So to everyone who has come through the doors of my gym and to everyone who will come though, as always, for being my village. You all make fitness, health, wellbeing, lots more fun!
